Vape pods and coils do not last forever, but the way you use them can make a big difference. A few simple habits can help you get better flavour and avoid burnt taste.
How Long Do Vape Pods & Coils Last?
Vape pods and coils usually last based on how often you vape, the type of e-liquid you use, and how well you care for them.
Some users may need to replace a pod or coil after a few days, while others may get one or two weeks from it. Heavy use, sweet liquids, high wattage, and chain vaping can make coils burn faster.
1. Prime New Pods & Coils First
Priming means giving the cotton inside the pod or coil enough time to absorb e-liquid before you start vaping.
If you use a new pod or coil too quickly, the cotton may still be dry. This can cause a burnt taste from the first puff.
- Fill the pod or tank with e-liquid
- Wait 5–10 minutes before vaping
- Start with short gentle puffs
- Avoid long pulls at the beginning
Tip: New pods and coils need time. Waiting a few minutes can save the coil.
2. Do Not Let the Pod Run Empty
One of the fastest ways to burn a coil is using it when the e-liquid level is too low.
The cotton inside the coil needs to stay wet. If the pod is almost empty, the cotton may dry out and burn.
- Refill before the pod is completely empty
- Keep the liquid above the coil/cotton area
- Check the liquid level during the day
Fix: Refill early instead of waiting until the last drops.
3. Use the Right E-Liquid for Your Device
Not every e-liquid works well with every device. Some liquids are thicker, while some are thinner.
Small pod systems usually work better with thinner liquids and nicotine salts. Bigger DL or sub-ohm devices usually work better with thicker high-VG liquids.
- Pod systems → usually better with salt nicotine or 50/50 liquids
- MTL devices → smoother with thinner liquids
- DL/sub-ohm devices → usually better with high-VG freebase liquids
Tip: If your pod tastes burnt often, your liquid may be too thick for the device.
4. Avoid Chain Vaping
Chain vaping means taking too many puffs quickly without giving the coil time to absorb more liquid.
After each puff, the cotton needs a few seconds to re-soak. If you vape too quickly, the cotton can become dry and create a burnt taste.
- Give your device a few seconds between puffs
- Avoid long repeated pulls
- Let the pod rest if it starts tasting dry
Fix: Slow down and allow the coil to re-absorb liquid.
5. Use the Correct Wattage
If your device allows wattage control, using too much power can burn the coil faster.
Most coils have a recommended wattage range printed on them or listed on the packaging. Staying within that range helps protect the coil and keeps flavour balanced.
- Check the recommended wattage range
- Start at the lower end
- Increase slowly if needed
- Do not exceed the coil’s recommended range
Tip: Higher wattage does not always mean better flavour. It can also shorten coil life.
6. Be Careful With Very Sweet E-Liquids
Sweet e-liquids can taste great, but they may wear coils faster. Sweeteners can build up on the coil and make the flavour darker, weaker, or burnt.
- Dessert flavours may reduce coil life faster
- Very sweet liquids can leave buildup
- Clearer liquids may sometimes keep coils cleaner for longer
Tip: If you use sweet liquids daily, expect to replace pods or coils more often.
7. Store Your Device Properly
Heat and direct sunlight can affect e-liquid and pod performance. Keeping your device in a hot car or under direct sun may cause leaking, thinning liquid, or weaker flavour.
- Keep your vape away from direct sunlight
- Do not leave it in a hot car
- Store it upright when possible
- Keep the mouthpiece clean
Fix: Store your device in a cool, clean place.
When Should You Replace Your Pod or Coil?
Even with good care, every pod and coil eventually needs replacement.
Replace your pod or coil when:
- The flavour tastes burnt
- The flavour becomes weak
- The vapour feels harsh
- The pod leaks more than usual
- The e-liquid turns dark quickly
- The coil has been used for many refills
Our Recommendation
To make pods and coils last longer, focus on the basics: prime new coils, keep the pod filled, use the right e-liquid, and avoid chain vaping.
If your coil burns too quickly again and again, the issue may be your liquid type, wattage, or device style.
Better habits = better flavour, smoother vaping, and longer pod or coil life.
